What makes a TEFL course in Thailand so special? As the only country in Southeast Asia never to be colonized by the West, its people take great pride in the preservation of their way of life, and the customs and traditions that make their country unique. Though most locals' command of English is limited, you'll find them warm and anxious to help. Thais are among the most friendly and outgoing of all people; most are curious about foreigners, and that curiosity is tempered by their interest in Western culture and your efforts to live among them and teach their friends and families.

Our TEFL TESOL teachers have noted that the intensity with which Thai students throw themselves into learning English is amazing.

Please Note: This course offers an optional 2-week online extension to the 4-week course, allowing trainees to obtain a Level 5 TQUK certificate on top of the school's certificate. Trainees do not need to decide on whether they wish to obtain this second certificate until the end of the first week of the 4-week course. The extension is payable to your course coordinator in Thailand for $100 in addition to the 4-week course fee.

How many assignments are there throughout the course and what do they consist of? How many hours of homework can I expect outside of class?

There are two main assignments that students must complete during the first 2 weeks of the course.

Both of these assignments require approximately 5 hours to complete outside of the course. The first is the Student Language Analysis which involves an interview with a young Thai student in order to analyze their language and skill level in English.  The student is then taught a one on one lesson based on the analysis.

The second is a Worksheet Activity where the TEFL student prepares their own student practice worksheet for a Present Continuous Lesson.

During the second two weeks, there are no formal assignments as TEFL students will be focused on preparing for their student teaching.  During this time, students spend approximately another 12 hours on homework preparing original lesson plans, worksheets, production materials, etc.

Will I have a lot of free time to see Chiang Mai and travel around Thailand?

You will have a bit of free time on the weekends, but to the intense nature of the schedule, you should plan to do any major sightseeing either before or after the course finishes.

Will grammar be taught during the course? Are there additional resources in the course materials?

Grammar will be a major part of the class hours during the first two weeks and students can expect to spend approximately 1.5 hours on grammar per day.  The school provides materials to support the studying of grammar.

The levels range from beginner young learners to adult intermediate.

Are there any specific technology requirements for the course?

No.  However, the school does have reliable WiFi access so students can bring their own laptop computer and there are also 12 laptop computers available for use in the lesson preparation area.

How can I prepare for the course? Can I begin working on my assignments prior to the course?

One month before the course begins, a paper, video review of grammar, and teaching methodology will be sent to the students via email.  Please review this before the course begins.

Does the TEFL course recommend housing or arrange it?

Both! There is a local hotel that the course coordinators can help students arrange for a discounted rate.  Chiang Mai also has a very large student population and is a large budget traveler’s destination therefore, many budget accommodations are available and easy to find.

With help from an old friend, I found Internatioanl TEFL Academy and after doing my own research, I knew I was making the right decision! I found that International TEFL Academy has a very good reputation all over the world, and I read so many good reviews from others. Once I signed up they were immediately very personable, helpful, and encouraging throughout the process! I have never met anyone who regretted even at least trying! Put yourself out there, take advantage of all the country has to offer and before you know it, it will feel like home!

I decided to get TEFL certified because I knew it would increase my confidence in the classroom. I also wanted to learn as much as I could about ESL teaching. I chose ITA because the representatives were so helpful. They answered all my stupid questions and made me feel even more confident in my decision to teach English abroad. Every e-mail I sent or phone call I made was responded to quickly, and it always felt personal. I never felt like I was talking to an automated system. On top of that, ITA only had positive reviews for affordability, flexibility, and assistance.

After doing a fair amount of research I realized my resume wasn't marketable enough, even with a background in education. I knew if I wanted really great positions teaching English abroad, I needed a way to stand out and any advantage I could get, so I read blogs, forums and Q&A's on the matter, and found that getting TEFL certified was the best way to move forward. When I looked online for credible organizations to be TEFL certified, I found the International TEFL Academy, which after contacting over the phone and researching, was plainly the best option available.
