TEFL Certification in Rome, Italy - Overview

The Rome, Italy TEFL course is very intensive and requires a strong commitment by the student. One can expect to be in class for about eight hours a day along with a few hours of work at home. International TEFL Academy recommends that trainees have no other personal or professional commitments outside the course during those four weeks of training.

Italy is one of the most popular locations in Europe and the world for teaching English abroad. English teachers in Italy typically find work in September or early October, and Rome again in January. Teachers in Rome will be expected to interview in person once they arrive in Rome, and they will also be responsible for their airfare, as well as housing.  Many English teachers in Rome live in apartments recently vacated by previous teachers, and many room with their coworkers. 

 


Rome Student Visa Option Overview

International TEFL Academy's partner school in Rome has developed a special package offered to those who want to obtain a student visa in Rome, Italy.  The student visa option is only available to TEFL students who participate in the 4-week onsite TEFL course in Rome.

What is a Student Visa?

A student visa allows Americans & other non-E.U. citizens to live legally & teach in Italy while taking part-time classes.  In receiving a student visa, you are eligible for EU work authorization for up to 20 hours per week.  ITA's partner school in Italy offers a Professional Development program after the TEFL course in order to obtain a student visa.

Anyone interested in receiving a student visa needs to apply at least 3 months in advance before your TEFL course begins in Italy.  The student visa process through the Italian government can be lengthy so you want to be sure to give yourself enough time (anticipate an extra month during the summer season). 

Professional Development Program

This is an extension of the training received during the TEFL course.  It provides graduates with the opportunity to develop their professional skills, fine-tune strengths, and improve upon weaknesses. 

Students will do a combination of self and guided study for 20 hours per week.  The course schedule can be arranged around your English teaching hours. 

Schedule and Start dates

Students may begin the Professional Development program any Monday after completing their TEFL course in Rome.  

Courses are typically Monday-Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm or based on your English teaching schedule.

Class Highlights & Local Transportation

We start the course with a welcome breakfast in Rome and then there will be a mid-course night out! We also take the class for some drinks on the final day of class.

Transportation: 

Termini train station, Colosseo and Cavour metro stations on B line, Repubblica and Barberini metro stations on A line. There are also many bus stops, too.

Housing Options

Upon enrollment, you'll be put in touch with the Accommodation Agent who will help you arrange your accommodations during the 4-week TEFL class. This is usually a room with an Italian host family so that we can offer them the cheapest option in Rome. The accommodation service costs €50 and the accommodation usually costs about €600 a month in Rome.

Host Family - A room with an Italian host family is the most affordable housing option in Rome. The accommodation agent service costs €50 and the accommodation costs on average €600 per month in Rome.

Amenities - You'll have a private room, access to laundry facilities, and wifi. The room will have a single bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, linens, and access to a shared bathroom, living room, and kitchen.
