Terms & Conditions

We want everyone to enjoy their experience with the International TEFL Academy’s Teach Abroad Film Festival (the “Film Festival), so we want to be upfront and make sure everyone is aware of the necessary terms and conditions for this Film Festival to be successful. We have tried to make this as simple and straightforward as we can. We have no desire to make you commit to something you do not want to agree to. So if you do not want to abide by these Terms and Conditions, please do not make a submission.

By submitting your film, you agree to these Terms and Conditions, and all other Film Festival rules, requirements and deadlines that International TEFL Academy may institute in its sole discretion. International TEFL Academy reserves the right to deem any  entry void, and not eligible for consideration, if, in the sole discretion of International TEFL Academy,  the submission does not comply with these Terms and Conditions or other applicable Film Festival rules, requirements and deadlines.

PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL TEFL ACADEMY’S TEACH ABROAD FILM FESTIVAL IS FREE.

 

Eligibility

Only students and alumni of International TEFL Academy are eligible to submit entries for the Film Festival.

Employees and instructors of International TEFL Academy and any other companies associated with the Film Festival, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and members of their same household and the spouses of such household members, (whether or not related), are NOT eligible to enter the Film Festival or win a prize.

Entry Period

The Film Festival "Entry Period" starts as soon as the entry page is live and ends on February 2, 2020 at 11:59 PM CST.

Entry Rules

By fully completing and submitting all required information you will be automatically entered in the Film Festival and be a “Participant”.  The Participant is only the person or persons listed in the entry regardless of who appears in, or participated in the making of, the film submitted. All Participants must meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

Participants may only submit one film to be eligible for the Film Festival.

All films must:
  • Be original and created & directed by the Participant;
  • Be completed and properly submitted before the end of the Entry Period.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The format of the film should be as follow:
    • 16:9 (widescreen)
    • 1920 x 1080 resolution.
    • Mp4
  • All films must be in English, or include English subtitles if the film is not in English.
  • All content of the film must be owned by, or properly licensed to, the Participant, including any music, photographs, animation or video clips, so that International TEFL Academy can use the film in all ways described in these Terms and Conditions and the Film Festival Waiver and Release Form.
  • Participant must obtain written permission from anyone other than Participant who appears in the film so that International TEFL Academy can use the film in all ways described in these Terms and Conditions and the Film Festival Waiver and Release Form.

THE FILM SUBMITTED BY PARTICIPANT MUST INCLUDE EACH OF THESE 3 TOPICS:

  1. Teach: the submitted film reflects the participant’s daily life teaching English abroad, in a classroom or online. AND
  2. Travel: the submitted film reflects the participant’s passion for traveling, backpacking, or country hoping, whether it is by foot, train, plane, boat, bike, car, motorbike and so on. AND
  3. Explore: the submitted film reflects the true meaning of going overseas to teach English, such as cultural shocks and exchanges, helping make a difference in the country/city they are in, living like a local, exploring cities/countries and so on.

ADDITIONAL SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Participants must submit the registration form on the Film Festival webpage and upload their submission. Online entry only. No other method of entry will be accepted.

Participants must complete the Film Festival Waiver and Release Form at the time of entry.

Participants are solely responsible for Internet connectivity, software, and/or hardware that may be required in order to create and/or submit any submission.

All entries must include a valid e-mail address for the Participant. Participants must fully complete and submit all data requested on the online entry form to be eligible. Incomplete and/or inaccurate entries are void.

Judging

The Judging process is as follow:

  • Once the Entry Period ends, The International TEFL Academy Staff will evaluate all eligible entries and select the ”Finalists” in their sole discretion. The list of Finalists will be sent to the Film Festival “Jury”.
  • Finalists will be notified of their selection via email, or phone, by no later than March 15, 2020.
  • The Jury will judge the Finalists’ submissions and choose the 3 overall ”Winners” ahead of the Film Festival event on April 2, 2020, based on the following criteria:
    • Storytelling: 30%
    • Creativity & Originality: 25%
    • Cinematography 20%
    • Production: 15%
    • Online Voting: 10%

In the event of a tie, the Creativity & Originality score will be used as the tiebreaker. All scoring will be made in the sole discretion of the Jury.

In the event that a selected Finalist or Winner cannot be contacted within 7 days of an initial notification, that Finalist or Winner may forfeit that status and an alternate Finalist or Winner may be selected instead in the sole discretion of International TEFL Academy.

Prizes

The following three prizes will be granted the day of the Film Festival Event:

GRAND PRIZE:

The top Finalist submission selected by the Jury will be the Grand Prize Winner and receive:

  • $2,000 (USD) cash prize;

SECOND PRIZE:

The 2nd top Finalist submission selected by the Jury will be the 2nd prize Winner and receive:

  • $1,000 (USD) cash prize;

THIRD PRIZE:

The 3rd top Finalist submission selected by the Jury will be the 3rd prize Winner and receive:

  • $500 (USD) cash prize;

GOOVERSEAS CHOICE AWARD:

The Finalist submission selected during an online vote by the public will be the GoOverseas Choice Award Winner and receive:

  • $200 cash prize.

The Finalists’ submissions, including the Winner’s submissions, will be featured on International TEFL Academy’s website and all social networking channels, and may be used in other promotional materials. By submitting a film entry you agree to International TEFL Academy’s use of your film in this manner. By submitting a film entry you agree to International TEFL Academy’s use of your film in this manner.

The Winners of the prizes will be fully responsible for any applicable federal, state, and local taxes (including income and withholding taxes). All costs and expenses associated with acceptance and use of a prize are the sole responsibility of the Winners unless otherwise specified in these Terms and Conditions.

The prize(s) are non-transferable and non-assignable, with no cash redemptions except at International TEFL Academy's sole and absolute discretion. International TEFL Academy reserves the right to substitute any prize (or any portion thereof) with one of comparable or greater value, at its sole and absolute discretion.

International TEFL Academy shall have no responsibility for the taxes, fees or other costs or charges of Participants arising out of or related to their participation in any manner in the Film Festival. Additionally, International TEFL Academy shall have no responsibility for any compensation owed to anyone else who appeared in or participated in the making of any film submitted.

General Conditions

By participating in the Film Festival, each Participant:

  • accepts and agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, including all eligibility requirements, and the International TEFL Academy website’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use;
  • and gives his/her express permission to be contacted by International TEFL Academy and the Film Festival sponsors and/or their representatives for administration purposes.

These Terms and Conditions may be changed, in International TEFL Academy’s sole discretion, at any time.  Each Participant is responsible for checking as to whether any such changes have occurred and will be bound by such changes.
