Where are you from, where did you go to college & what did you major in at college?
I am originally from a small town in Iowa called Mount Vernon. I attended college at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI and double majored in Psychology and Spanish.
Your first experience travelling abroad?
My first time traveling abroad was with my family when I was in first or second grade. We went to Europe and I don’t recall too much about that trip besides hunting down castles in Germany and being unimpressed with the pizza in Italy.
However, starting in 5th grade I would travel to the Caribbean with my dad for 2 weeks each year and those trips I remember a lot more clearly. He travels there for work and I would tag along but always with the understanding that it would be an educational experience and that I would be required (by my parents) to complete a science project that I would later present to my class when I returned to school.
This lasted until it became too difficult to miss 2 weeks of classes when I reached high school. The specific island that we went to during that time was a small Bahamian island that contained a research station. The research station is housed in an old military barracks and the entire island is only 13 miles long and 5 miles wide. It isn’t exactly what you might picture in your mind when you envision the Bahamas but as a kid I absolutely loved it. When I wasn’t working in the lab with my dad and his students, I was scuba diving and climbing trees.
What countries have you visited?
I visited Italy, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Bahamas, Bonaire, St. Croix, Peru, Morocco, Portugal, Belize, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, North Korea, Spain and Israel.
WHAT's next on your list?
I would love to go to Argentina, India and Hungary (Budapest) next.
Work/Taught/Study/Long-term travel experience:
I studied abroad in Granada, Spain during college and fell in love with the area and also the country as a whole. I then taught English in Seoul, South Korea for just under 2 years. While I was there I studied Korean and immersed myself into the culture as much as I could.
