Teaching English in Lithuania 101

Though much smaller than its neighbors like Poland and Russia, the former Soviet republic of Lithuania is still an available option for teaching English in northeastern Europe in the Baltic Sea region.

The English-teaching market in Lithuania is very small, with positions for non-EU citizens most likely being short-term volunteer programs. English teaching jobs in Lithuania are available through May and August for a September start with expected downtimes in both August and at Christmas. A typical teaching contract is 10 or 12 months in length. In most cases, schools recruit teachers in-person in Lithuania A BA/BS is required to teach English in Lithuania, as well as a TEFL certification. NOTE: International TEFL Academy does not recommend that our students or alumni without a degree consider Lithuania as a viable teaching destination.

Wages are modest - you certainly won't get rich teaching English in Lithuania, but the cost of living is average, so you should expect to break even while living comfortably. The English teaching job market in Lithuania is strongest in major cities like Vilnius and Kaunas.
