What is your role at international TEFL Academy?

What's Your Story?

I worked in an office for years and hated everything about it.  So I decided to get a degree in Education.  After graduating from grad school I knew that I was not ready to “settle down”.  While my friends were all looking for careers as teachers, I was looking for adventures as a teacher.

I picked the place I thought I would be least likely to go and started my research there.  I got on a plane to China totally unprepared for what was to come.   It changed my life and I have not stopped traveling since.  My friends have stories about drinking in the same bars and hanging out with the same people and I have stories about go karting down the Great Wall of China and drinking beers with locals in Vietnam.

Where are you from, where did you go to college & what did you major in at college?

Originally from a suburb of Chicago, but I have been in the city for a long time.  Plus saying you’re from Chicago sounds way cooler than saying you are from Glen Ellyn.

I went to the University of Colorado in Boulder and got a degree in Business and Communications.  I also have a M.Ed in Secondary Education from DePaul University in Chicago.

Where Have You Lived/Taught Abroad

I taught in Yantai, China for two years.

What countries have you visited?

Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand, Fiji, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada

Describe Your First Travel Experience

My very first trip abroad was to Paris with my family when I was 16.  The jet lag got to me and I fell asleep everywhere (waiting for trains, on boats, waiting in lines at museums…).  It was beautiful, but I wish I had been awake for more of it.

Name some of your favorite literature & media:

Music: I listen to a lot of crappy country.  I probably shouldn’t admit that online.

TV: Game of Thrones, except the gross parts.

What is your favorite international cuisine?

Kimchi Jjigae - spicy Kimchi and tofu soup & Dumplings.  Every culture has them and I love them all.

Why do you like working at International TEFL Academy?

I get to talk and think about traveling all day long!

I can't wait to help you travel the world!
