Wesley Hobson | Student Affairs Advisor

What is your role at International TEFL Academy?

I joined the team in June of 2025 as a Student Affairs Advisor.

What's your story?

My journey into international education began early, working at my university's international center and later at Mizzou's Asian Affairs Center, where I built connections with students from across East and Southeast Asia.

Inspired by their stories, I taught English in Daejeon, South Korea, for a year, then deepened my cultural immersion by studying Korean full-time in Seoul. After seven years of serving international students at my hometown university in various capacities, I'm thrilled to bring my passion for global experiences to ITA, helping students embark on their own transformative adventures.

Where are you from and where did you go to college?

I am from a small university town in Missouri, where I completed my undergraduate studies. I then pursued my graduate degrees at the University of Missouri.

What was your first travel abroad experience like?

My first study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, was truly engaging and broadened my sense of the world. I connected with friends from around the globe (England, Italy, Uzbekistan, Russia, Sweden, and more!), learned to make traditional Korean dishes and crafts, and immersed myself in the Korean language, giving me the confidence to navigate the country independently. Although it was only for the summer, it was satisfying enough to encourage me to come back for additional study, travel, and work opportunities.

What countries have you been to?

I've explored the vibrant cultures of South Korea and Thailand!

Where have you lived/taught abroad?

I lived in Seoul, South Korea, and gained valuable teaching experience in Daejeon, South Korea.

Best travel story?

Coming from Missouri's rolling hills, experiencing the breathtaking ocean coastline of Jeju Island in Korea was an absolutely unforgettable highlight for me. The natural beauty was truly inspiring! I’ll never forget the beautiful sunsets over the island’s coastline.

Favorite ethnic food?

There are so many: Korean BBQ, Kimchi Stew, Gyros, Tacos, Indian Curry, Pasta, etc.

What excites you about working at ITA?

I'm genuinely excited to collaborate with colleagues who share my dedication to intercultural exchange and providing exceptional service. It's a privilege to support students' self-discovery and global awareness, knowing their ITA experience will profoundly shape their futures.
