MEET THE ITA STAFF

Peter Kersting | Admissions Advisor

Peter Kersting

What is your role at International TEFL Academy?

I am an Admissions Advisor and have been a part of the ITA team since November of 2023.

What's your story?

I’m an ITA alumnus.

After an out-of-this-world study abroad experience in the Netherlands, I was hooked on world travel. I needed to get back out there and live somewhere new long term. But I was struggling to find my way.

My international job search kept turning up short in the hiring process. Discouraged, I searched to find out “how to work abroad?” and found ITA which led to a phone call with my Admissions Advisor.

That phone call changed my life.

My TEFL certification primed me to teach in Korea and later in Japan where I had some of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I had no idea you could pay off debt, travel, AND do a meaningful job at the same time. It’s still bonkers to me!

Fast forward and now being able to help others create their own teach-abroad experience and live their best lives means the world to me.

Where are you from and where did you go to college?

I’m from Napa, California, but I studied journalism at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ.

What was your first travel abroad experience like?

My first time outside the U.S. was for my study abroad in the Netherlands. It lit me up!

Working on cool projects, being the face of a Dutch band's 30th-anniversary tour, and celebrating Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence for New Year, I can’t begin to describe how amazing my experience was and how much I learned about myself and the world.

What countries have you been to?

Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Bosnia, Croatia, England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Czech Republic, Italy,

Where have you lived/taught abroad?

I studied film in Breda, Netherlands and taught in Samcheonpo, South Korea and Kobayashi, Japan.

Best travel story?

I don’t know about best, but a good one is getting my beard shaved for over an hour in Vietnam.

Favorite ethnic food?

It’s a toss up between Thai, Indian, and Mexican.

What excites you about working at ITA?

I’m excited to help others have a meaningful experience living abroad. There’s so much to learn about yourself and the world around you. It’s an opportunity to grow, make unforgettable friendships, and make a difference in your students’ lives. Anyone who has taken that leap of faith knows, it's life-changing!
