We will continue to stay in close communication with our partners regarding the situation and upcoming course dates.

We are also working closely with our partner recruiters and schools abroad to keep up-to-date on hiring in affected countries. At this time, schools may be delaying start dates or hiring until after March. Students should also be advised that currencies are fluctuating, which may impact their job search and moving abroad. Please refer to xe.com for the most up to date exchange rates.

Enrolled students can reach out to their Student Affairs Advisor to get more information on how this may affect their specific job search.

We are doing our very best to monitor the situation closely and we encourage all of our students to do the same. Be sure to stay up to date with any and all travel recommendations by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), State Department, and the World Health Organization  (WHO)

Faqs About Coronavirus & TEFL:

What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

To learn more, read the CDC's official list of everything you need to know about COVID-19.

How Can I Protect Myself From Coronavirus?

Vaccination is widely regarded as the most effective way to prevent yourself from suffering the most adverse effects of COVID-19. Please speak to your physician regarding any questions or concerns you may have about vaccination and also to learn where and how you may be able to get vaccinated.

People can also help protect themselves from respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

To learn more, read the CDC's official list of everything you need to know about COVID-19.

What If My TEFL Course Is Canceled?

At this point in time, most in-person TEFL courses are running as scheduled.

If your course is canceled due to the Coronavirus you have a variety of options. Your ITA Student Affairs Advisor can help you either transfer to a later TEFL course date and/or location.

You may also be eligible for a refund. If you're an enrolled student, get in touch with your Student Affairs Advisor to discuss your options.

How Will Coronavirus Impact My TEFL Job Search?

Coronavirus is a rapidly developing situation and the impact will vary from country to country. In countries where COVID-19 is prevalent, you can expect possible delays in hiring in addition to travel restrictions. But at this point, we haven't seen COVID-19 stop schools from hiring altogether.

Also, please note that certain countries may require vaccination for entrance, and schools around the globe are increasingly requiring proof of vaccination to gain employment.

Get in touch with your ITA Student Affairs Advisor to talk specifics and also be sure to read through all of the recommended resources listed above.

Will My ITA Certificate or Job Search Guidance Expire If I Choose To Postpone Traveling Abroad?

Your ITA TEFL certification never expires and neither does your job search guidance. Your access to job search guidance from our Student Affairs team is lifetime, so you can work with our team at any point in the future to gain employment teaching English abroad or online.

What TEFL Course Should I Take If I'm Worried About The Coronavirus?

Our Full-time/Part-time Online TEFL course is operating normally and we don't anticipate any delays because of COVID-19. If you want to confidently enroll in a TEFL class and want the peace of mind that it will not be delayed or canceled, talk with your ITA Advisor and see if the Online class is the right fit for you.
