Mariam Mazboudi | Chicago In-Person TEFL Course Instructor

Mariam Mazboudi | Chicago TEFL Course Instructor

What's your role at International TEFL Academy?

I am the Chicago In-Person TEFL Course instructor.

What's your story?

I lived in Beirut, Lebanon till I was 13.  My dad worked for the airline and we traveled a lot, especially in Europe.  He was stationed in Saudi Arabia, so I’ve been there too.  Once I started teaching ESL, I went to Austria and lived there for 3 years and then to Oman, where I stayed for 4 years.

I was always interested in languages and cultures, having come from a trilingual home and having traveled a lot.  My older sister and her husband were officers in the Navy and traveled throughout.  Teaching English was the natural thing for me to do!

What is your educational background?

I got my MA in Linguistics with a TEFL certificate from Northeastern Illinois University.

What's your ESL teaching experience?

I taught in Vienna, Austria (1997-2000) and in Oman (2018-2022).

What countries have you visited?

In Europe, I traveled to just about all the countries.  Been to Canada and Mexico.  In the Gulf, been to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, The Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar.  I went to Japan in the 90s.  I’d love to go to more Asian countries, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand!

What is your favorite ethnic food?

Thai food!

Why are you excited about working at ITA?

I’ve worked online for ITA for years, and now being on-site is even better because I get to see everyone in person.
