What is your role at International TEFL Academy?

I am an Admissions Advisor and have been a part of the ITA team since July of 2022.

What's your story?

After working many years in the fashion/retail industry, I decided to leave the “corporate world” and ventured off to SE Asia and Central America to teach English and embark on a life-changing adventure. In the summer of 2016, I received my TEFL certification in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and spent almost 2 years there teaching in a classroom. I have also spent the past 6 years teaching online. I have a passion for travel and living abroad and teaching English as a second language has given me the ability to explore the world. Since 2016 I have lived abroad and explored more than 13 countries on 3 different continents.  My journey is also slightly unconventional having decided to move abroad and get my TEFL in my 40's.

Where are you from and where did you go to college?

I am from Stevens Point, a fairly small town in Central Wisconsin. I went to college at the University of Wisconsin - Stout, which is in an even smaller town in northwest Wisconsin.

What was your first travel abroad experience like?

I studied abroad in London while in college, and I was hooked after that!

What countries have you been to?

Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, India, South Africa, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada, United Kingdom, Wales, Poland, France, Italy, and Germany.

Where have you lived/taught abroad?

I taught in person at a few schools in Northern Thailand. I also spent 6 years teaching online while traveling SE Asia and Central America.

Best travel story?

I love the lifelong connections you can make when traveling and living abroad. I became friends with a fellow teacher at my school in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I then went to her wedding in Bangalore, India, and then went to visit her, her husband, and her newborn son in Singapore.

Favorite ethnic food?

It is so hard to pick just one! I love Vietnamese, Italian, and Mexican.

What excites you about working at ITA?

I am looking forward to helping others step outside of their comfort zone and experience teaching and living abroad! I also love working with a team of people who share my passion for travel and adventure.
