TEACH & STUDY VISA PROGRAM IN BARCELONA, SPAIN

Exclusive Features: 

• 7-12 months of language classes (15-20 hours per week are required)—Language classes will be held at our Language School Partner in Barcelona, which is accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, the highest accreditation a Spanish language school can obtain in Spain.
• Orientation & Induction—Our Language School Partner will assist you with apartment hunting, opening a bank account, getting a NIE (foreigner identification card), form-filling in Spanish, etc.
• Job Guidance—If you are going to be TEFL certified by the time you arrive in Barcelona and want to teach English while on your student visa, ITA Barcelona will assist you in finding an English-teaching job in Barcelona.
• Professional Development (Optional) - Students can elect to spend 5 hours per week fine-tuning their professional English teaching skills. The other 15 hours will be dedicated to language learning.

Students must take at least 15 hours of Spanish or Catalan to qualify for a student visa. Students may still add up to 5 hours of the other languages offered, but they cannot count as the primary course of study.

Other fees and costs:  All housing, travel, textbooks, and Spain Student Visa Fees are extra. 

Student Visa Processing: Tuition for the language classes is due ASAP to start the student visa process. The student must pay All visa fees to the Spain consulate directly when applying. The visa fee for Americans is approximately $160. Students applying for a Spain Student Visa can apply at the consulate in their home country at their assigned regional office OR once in Barcelona (see "Processing a Student Visa for Spain in Barcelona" at the end of the post).

Start dates are flexible. Students should plan to begin the application process with ITA Barcelona at least 4-5 months before their intended start date (do not wait until the last moment).

Many Spaniards vacation throughout the month of August. Teachers should expect work at private language schools and even private tutoring to greatly decrease or even disappear during August, making it an ideal time for them to travel and vacation.

• Four-week  TEFL course in Barcelona: This is full-time, Monday - Friday.
  NOTE: your language classes will not begin until after you complete this course is finished.

• Guidance will be provided by ITA Barcelona to help you gain employment teaching English in Spain (if desired and TEFL qualified).
• All graduates of standard ITA TEFL courses also receive lifetime Job Search Guidance to gain employment in up to 80 countries worldwide.
• TEFL Professional Development (optional): Students can customize their schedule and spend 5 hours per week fine-tuning their professional English teaching skills. The other 15 hours will be dedicated to language learning. 

Class hour requirements: Students must take 15-20 hours of Spanish or Catalan to qualify for the student visa.

Students may still add up to 5 hours of other languages the school provides, but it cannot be the primary course of study.

Your exact course schedule will depend on your level and availability. However, the 15-20 hours per week are typically divided into the following each week: 

• 10 hours of group Spanish
• 3 hours of grammar
• 3 hours of conversation
• 1.5 hours of phonetics
• Online lessons
• 2 hours of writing

• A $900 USD up-front deposit is paid to ITA to hold your spot in the  Barcelona TEFL class. 
• Language study tuition must be paid in full to ITA Barcelona to start the student visa application process. This can be paid as soon as you have made the decision to take the language study in Barcelona. Outstanding tuition for the language classes is due ASAP to start the student visa process.
• Other fees and costs: Housing and travel costs, textbooks, and Spain Student Visa fees are not included. ITA Barcelona will provide guidance for locating housing during the first month of the TEFL course.
• Student Visa Processing: All visa fees must be paid by the student to the Spain consulate directly when applying. The student visa fee for Americans is approximately $160. 
• Students applying for a Spain Student Visa can apply at the consulate in their home country at their assigned regional office OR once in Barcelona (see below).
• You will need to purchase the class textbook before the class begins. The PDF version is $45 and the paperback version is $67.95.
• The tuition balance to ITA Barcelona includes the 300€ course administration fee. The $900 deposit to ITA and the 300€ course administration fees are non-refundable. This includes the first book, DHL EXPRESS service if the consulate requires original documents, preparation of documents, consulting, etc. 

Start date: Start dates are flexible, and language classes generally begin on Mondays. You should apply for this at least 4-5 months before you want to be in Barcelona. Students who process the visa in Barcelona must bring a completed criminal background check with them from their home country.
