Buenos Aires Argentina TEFL Course
The capital of the largest Spanish-speaking country on the continent, Buenos Aires is a bustling city of over 9 million people. Its French-style architecture, Italian heritage, and general cultural sophistication give it a distinctly elegant feel, earning it the nickname “The Paris of South America.” Add to that a vibrant populace, a nightlife that never stops, and shopping and dining galore, and it’s hard to imagine a more enjoyable city than Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires continues to be one of our most popular TEFL course locations—and there’s no lack of reasons why. The city is renowned internationally for world-class soccer teams, thriving tango culture, scrumptious cuisine (especially beef), and, more recently, for amazingly affordable prices. It would take you a lifetime to experience the sights and sounds the city has to offer. But after getting certified to teach English in Argentina, you may just want to stick around and give it a try!
International TEFL Academy offers lifetime job placement assistance for all our graduates.
The TEFL TESOL School
Completely renovated in 2008, our spacious TEFL training center in Buenos Aires offers first-class facilities in a historic part of town. There are two fully equipped classrooms for the use of our TEFL classes, a comfortable work area for planning lessons, a small computer lab, as well as free WiFi. There is also a patio for coffee breaks and a terrace for the occasional asado (BBQ).
The training center is located in San Telmo, one of the most traditional and picturesque neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Within walking distance are the many restaurants, bars, and cafés that make San Telmo popular with tourists and locals alike. Also within walking distance is the famous Plaza Dorrego where you will always find something interesting going on. Home stays are a good way to get to know the local culture and to practice the local language. Host families provide breakfast and dinner, and enjoy spending time during meals chatting with students. In order to be accepted into our program, families are carefully screened and must meet International TEFL Academy partner's stringent requirements. Many families have been in our program for years and have consistently received excellent evaluations.
All of our host families are middle-class, many are single-parent households, and they may or may not have children living at home. All host families live in attractive homes in safe neighborhoods. Distances from the schools vary from a few-minute walk to a 30-minute bus ride, depending on the size of the city. In your host family's home, you will have your own bedroom and either a shared or private bathroom. You will be given a key to the house or apartment and are free to come and go as you please. However, as a guest living with a host family, you should be sure to respect the routine of the people you are staying with.
A housing option in several TEFL training locations is the school residence. Residences are often located near the training centers, and usually offer fully equipped kitchens, dining rooms, and private or shared bedrooms and bathrooms. Some may also provide additional amenities such as Internet cafés, swimming pools, and/or entertainment centers. Prices vary depending on whether you choose a private, shared, or dormitory room and on whether or not you would like meals to be included.
Hotels and apart-hotels are available within a short distance of every training center. In most locations, you will find that shared apartments, host families and school residences provide a more economical alternative to hotels. However, if you are interested in staying in a hotel during your course, please contact your onsite coordinator for more information.
Argentina benefits from a highly literate populace, which places a premium on education—including English language instruction. Once among the wealthiest countries in South America, Argentina has had its fair share of economic woes in recent years. The good news is that since 2002 the economy has grown, poverty has declined, and there has been a strong rebound of the middle class. As the nation forges ahead, more and more people are realizing the importance of—and are able to afford—English language classes.
Almost half of Argentina’s population lives in the province of Buenos Aires, and many of the nation’s English teaching jobs can be found there. As a TEFL teacher in Buenos Aires, you will likely find the most work teaching English to professionals and business executives. However, you may also have the opportunity to tutor students studying for exams, families preparing for a trip abroad, or others looking to improve their English skills.
