Rio de Janeiro Brazil TEFL Class
With white sandy beaches in one direction, lush green mountains in another, and the famous Christ Redeemer statue perched above it all, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most spectacular cities in the world. And that’s just the view! Add the friendliness of the locals, the laid-back attitude, and the tropical climate, and you’ll soon see why they call Rio “A Cidade Maravilhosa” (the Marvelous City).
Rio de Janeiro is renowned for its festive atmosphere, especially during Carnival—for five days every year, the city comes to a virtual standstill as parties, dancing, parades, and samba music fill the streets. But Rio is also a modern business center, home to the headquarters of some of Brazil's largest national and multinational companies. As a TEFL trainee in Rio de Janeiro, you will find yourself in a fascinating cosmopolitan city with nearly unlimited restaurants, businesses, tourist attractions, nightlife options and, of course, beaches!

International TEFL Academy offers lifetime job search guidance for all our graduates.
TEFL Training Center
International TEFL Academy’s training partners have a long history in Brazil, with over 20 years of experience in the
country. The Rio de Janeiro TEFL training center offers modern, comfortable facilities in a convenient downtown location. It is just blocks from the Uruguaiana metro station and close to the famous SAARA, a flea market where you can find anything at amazingly inexpensive prices.
Established in 1984, the TEFL center moved to newly renovated facilities in 2006. It features 10 classrooms with TVs and DVD players, central heat and air-conditioning, computers with free Internet, and WiFi. It is in the same building is an amazing café where you can taste Brazil’s world-famous coffee. You'll find the TEFL center staff welcoming and professional, and always ready to help you with whatever you may need during your time in Rio.

Host Families
Home stays are a good way to get to know the local culture and to practice the local language. Host families provide
breakfast and dinner, and enjoy spending time during meals chatting with students. In order to be accepted into our program, families are carefully screened and must meet International TEFL Academy's stringent requirements. Many families have been in our program for years and have consistently received excellent evaluations.
All of our host families are middle-class, many are single-parent households, and they may or may not have children living at home. All host families live in attractive homes in safe neighborhoods. Distances from the schools vary from a few-minute walk to a 30-minute bus ride, depending on the size of the city. In your host family's home, you will have your own bedroom and either a shared or private bathroom. You will be given a key to the house or apartment and are free to come and go as you please. However, as a guest living with a host family, you should be sure to respect the routine of the people you are staying with.
Shared Apartments
In many locations, trainees have the option of staying in a shared apartment with a local resident. Shared apartments are ideal for trainees who want to live with local people, but who prefer to maintain more autonomy than in a host family. In a shared apartment, you will have your own bedroom, but you will generally share a bathroom and a kitchen. Meals aren’t included as they usually would be with a host family, but you can prepare your own food in the communal kitchen. In some course locations, you can choose to rent a private apartment. Please inquire for more information about private apartments.
Teaching English in Brazil
TEFL teachers seeking employment in Brazil will most likely find work in private language centers in Rio de Janeiro. Located throughout the city, most English schools are conveniently near public transportation, cafés, restaurants, and shopping areas.

Many TEFL classes will be taught outside of the schools themselves in the offices of the clients, which makes for highly motivated students and an efficient learning environment. Most of the students you will be teaching in Rio are adults and professionals who need to learn English for their jobs, as well as for personal improvement.
