English Teaching in Jordan

Teaching English Jobs

A relatively small market for Jordan-teach-abroad-topEnglish teachers, Jordan is known for its traditional Bedouin culture, the warm hospitality of its people and the stunning ruins of ancient sites like Jerash and Petra.  The official language of Jordan is Arabic, however there is a long tradition of usage of English, as Jordan was administrated by Great Britain under the League of Nations' Mandates System until 1946.

Most first-time English teachers will gain employment by interviewing in person once they arrive in Jordan, and they will also be responsible for their airfare, as well as housing.  Wages are not high, but due to the low cost of living they typically enable English teachers to live comfortably.  Most teachers live in apartments recently vacated by previous teachers, and many share accommodations with their coworkers. Schools typically offer around 20-25 hours per week of work, leaving you plenty of opportunity to travel and explore.  Giving private lessons are a popular way to earn extra money.

Major cities offering the most English teaching jobs in Jordan are Amman, Az Zarqa, Irbid, and Al Karak, as well as other larger cities.
