If requested, students attending our courses my stay in our arranged housing for the duration of the month (close to 4 1/2 weeks). All of our housing is negotiated with individual landlords and this is why we are able to offer you high quality housing for less than other courses in the city. These apartments are usually shared with one other student with each person getting their own individual room.
All flats are fully furnished, and contain everything you need for your stay. Most of our flats are in either Prague 2 or 3 (these are neighborhoods). Some are very close to the center and only a 5-10 minute walk from Wenceslas Square and our school. The other flats are about a 15-minute tram ride away. Housing for all apartments begins on the Friday before the start of your course to the following Sunday. If you are planning on arriving a few days later, or need to stay in your flat a little longer, it is not a problem at all and we only charge 450 CZK (around 16 Euro) per extra night.
Private flats
For individuals wishing to stay alone or for couples, we can offer private flats in the city. These flats are located in Prague 2 in Vinohrady one of the nicest areas of the city, and Prague 3 in Zizkov. The cost for the private flats are 550 Euro for individuals and 700 Euro for couples.
Getting your own place
If you decide to arrange your own housing for the course, we recommend Happy House Rentals www.happyhouserentals.com. The majority of their staff speaks English very well and they will do a great job of finding you accommodation in the city. If you are interested in securing something long term right away, these are the people to contact.
After the course, graduates are expected to find their own place in the city. In general, housing is very easy to find in the city, but if you need assistance, we will be there to help.
Staying in Prague
Short period:
Do you need to stay in Prague for a short period of time? One option is to stay in a hotel. Here is one of the many sites offering hotels and pensions: checkinprague.com. You can compare prices, choose the location and more.
The cheapest options are usually called “ubytovny” (hostels). Here is one website to give you an idea: hostels-in-prague.com. The price is around 5 euro per night. It is not the most comfortable place to stay in, but really cheap.
If you come during the summer and if you have your ISIC card, you can also stay in the dormitory of the universities. You can see one of them here: kam.czu.cz/en. They are comfortable, cheap and you will be surrounded by other students, which can be nice.
If you want to stay with your family or a group of friends, you can consider renting an apartment for a short period of time. Here is the link: my-prague-apartments.com
Long period:
Do you want to rent an apartment with your friends? Check out these websites: happyhouserentals.com, praguehome.com, czech-properties.cz
You can find a roommate via spolubydlici.cz. You can also place an ad to find a roommate; you can do so even before coming to Prague.
The Czech Republic Climate
The Czech Republic has a mild climate with warm, sometimes damp, summers and cold winters. The average temperature in summer is 24 °C (74 °F). At night temperatures fall to 15 °C (46 °F). In winter, the daily temperature averages around the freezing point and falls at night into -4 °C (26 °F). January and February are the coldest months when the daily temperature hovers around -5 °C (23 °F). Spring and summer tend to be the sunniest months, the period between May and August is the rainiest. Snow is rare in Prague during winter.
Dining & Nightlife
Dining
Dining in Prague can be inexpensive if done outside the center. Czech cuisine can be found in most restaurants. Pork is the primary meat served; however, other types of meat can be ordered as well. In most restaurants an average meal, including a beer, costs about 150 crowns (7 USD). It is interesting to note that a small glass of Coke is typically more expensive than a big glass of excellent beer.
Many other cuisines can be found in Prague. One restaurant that appeals to expats in particular is called Bohemia Bagel. There are a few Bohemian Bagels locations in Prague. The closest one to Tutor is in Old Town Square behind the Tyn Church. They offer a wide variety of foods specializing in bagels, burgers and sandwiches.Fast food chains have made their way to the Czech Republic. McDonalds and KFC are the two predominant chains. Prices there are the same as anywhere else with a typical value meal costing about 100 crowns (less than 5 USD).

Nightlife
Prague has great nightlife including the largest club in Eastern Europe called Karlovy Lazne. Most clubs and bars are open until 5:00am. However some are open 24 hours a day. Cover charges are not common. Occasionally, some of the bigger clubs in the center will charge a cover especially when there is a special DJ. Czech beer is considered the best in the world, which explains its popularity and I can tell you it’s true. A half-liter of beer costs approximately 25 crowns (little over a dollar). Mixed drinks are a bit more expensive costing about 100 crowns (5 USD) per drink. Shots range in price from 30 – 90 crowns (1,5 - 5 USD) on average. Most Czechs go out late around 11:00 or 12:00. Like any city Friday and Saturday are the popular nights to go out.
You will be able to find whatever type of bar or club you prefer in Prague. A good resource to find out about local events is www.expats.cz
